“Taking Shape”

Drury Heritage is progressing steadily — taking shape through careful restoration, thoughtful design, and hands-on execution.

As of mid-October, most of the core structural work is nearing completion. Timber joists are in place. The staircase is now walkable.

The beams are back in place, the brick walls stand strong again, and the front of the shop is taking shape. It’s more than just a building being restored — it’s the soul of a century-old heritage shop returning to life. A space rooted in history, yet ready to embrace its future. A living legacy we hope will be passed down for generations.

From the first-floor windows, a clear line of sight now opens into the lane below. Once the poster wall is complete, the view will offer more than a scene — it will reveal what we’ve long hoped for: a street once quiet and overlooked, slowly finding its rhythm again. New stories are starting to surface. Ours will be one of them.

We’re holding back the final touches — doors, window panels, glass — until the new upper platform is completed. Behind the scenes, we’re mapping wiring, lighting, and interior movements — preparing for kitchen equipment, seating layout, cabinetry, wall treatments, and surface finishes in the weeks to come.

Inside, the soul of the space is beginning to breathe. The right-side wall has been freshly replastered. The left reveals its bare brick — over 120 years old and still standing strong. Above, timber beams are being reinforced to support a new roof — one that will soon shelter not just a café, but a living memory.

Every step forward reminds us: this isn’t just renovation. It’s restoration — of structure, of spirit, of meaning. A quiet revival, where the soul of old Kuala Lumpur meets a thoughtful new chapter.

Every decision has been deliberate — where guests will sit and reflect, how the light will filter through, which machines will support our kitchen rhythm. We’re still finalising our offerings, tuning airflow and light balance, and confirming the right supplier partners. But one thing remains clear:

This isn’t just a build.

It’s a promise coming to life.

We’re moving according to plan.

We’re building it right.

📜 Bringing Old Walls to New Life

At Drury Heritage, we’re not just opening a cafe, we’re opening a cafe lounge. A space where heritage meets hospitality, and where quiet care is given to both the past and what comes next.

Located along Petaling Street in KL’s Chinatown, this journey began as a mission entrusted by family to restore a piece of the city’s architectural and cultural fabric. The building itself is over a century old with original brick walls, aged timber joists, and a facade that once housed a traditional Chinese grocer or merchant shop.

Rather than rebuild from scratch, we chose to restore and re-adapt. The old bricks remain intact, the timber joists retained as core structural elements, and the front facade brought back to life, with select modern upgrades introduced only where needed for function and flow.

We’ve engaged engineers and contractors with deep expertise in heritage conservation, the same teams involved in other restoration works in the city. From design planning to spatial layout, from lighting to materials, every decision has been made with respect for the original structure and a vision for sustainable use.

Drury Heritage isn’t here to claim novelty. Cafes are familiar. But what we’ve created is a cafe lounge with soul — a setting to pause, to reconnect, and to enjoy the present in an environment that still carries the weight and warmth of history.

This is a space built not for hype, but for meaning. Not for scale, but for experience. We’ve taken our time, we’ve done the groundwork — and when we open, we hope you’ll feel it: in the coffee, in the setting, and in the sincerity behind every detail.

The Founder’s Intent

After more than three decades in financial services — leading product builds, channel strategy, client delivery, and platform integrations — I stepped away from a world defined by performance metrics, layered committees, and relentless execution.

It wasn’t burnout. It was clarity.

I had spent years building platforms for others. It was time to create something meaningful — for myself and for those who entrusted me with this next chapter. Tasked by family to guide this space into its next life, I chose to build not just a cafe, but a shared expression of our heritage.

That’s why I formed L Clan Holdings — to create ventures with cultural weight and personal meaning.

Drury Heritage is the first. Not a franchise. Not a concept borrowed. But a space created from the ground up — informed by everything I’ve operationalised, implemented, commercialised, and lived through.

It’s a cafe, yes. But more than that — it’s a cultural capsule. A quiet pause in a loud city.

I’m not done building. I’ve just changed what I’m building for.
